Gay Vekovius, Secretary and Board Member of the Friends of the North Fork and White Rivers, will present information on the range of water-quality issues facing residents in Marion and Baxter Counties. Local Stream team activities will be reviewed by Marilyn Ply-Doran, Center Director. Together Marilyn and Gay will cover macroinvertebrate identification and chemical analysis of a water sample. In addition, Marilyn will introduce Stream Table models as a means to demonstrate natural stream dynamics and the results of "experimenting" with different methods of bank restoration.
Following the presentations and discussion we will move outside to the Crooked Creek area and either observe or participate in taking samplings using a Stream team Kit. We should complete all activities by 5 pm.
This opportunity is open to any person concerned about our shared waters and wishing to learn how to become active in the conservation of our resources. A carpool from Gassville is being coordinated. Call Jane Darr at 430-5777 if you want to share a ride.
