Fly of the Month - May 2010
Skip's Leaf Hopper
Hook - SN1 Lightning Strike, 2x heavy, 2x long, size 8 - 12
Body - 1/2 "butterfly" strike indicator, color of "choice"
Thread - 6/0, color of "choice"
Legs - rubber legs, color of "choice"
Place a thread base on the hook. Bring the thread back to about 1/3 to the eye of the hook. Pinch on the strike indicator half. Tie off the "head" and the "body" at the "neck joint". Secure the thread with a couple of 1/2 hitches. A three inch section of the rubber leg material with three strands is tied in on each of the fly. Once the section of leg material is secure, it is stretched and slowly cut at the ends to separate the strands.

Note: I saw Skip tie his Leaf Hopper at the Sowbug Roundup. You don't need a vice to tie this fly. As a result, Skip brought only a fraction of the paraphernalia that a typical tyer brings to Sowbug. I thought that as we move into spring, this would be a nice warm water fly. Mike Tipton
