Gary Flippin's Fishing Report
July, 2011
Well so much for saying we needed a little water going into the summer months. Mother Nature certainly has taken care of that. I'll be careful what I ask for in the future.
Boaters beware! Large trees have washed in and new gravel bars are creating new boating channels. Take your time and learn this new structure.
Fishing is great while the river pattern includes lower generation in the mornings and heavier flows mid-day and afternoons. This is likely because of the river level at Newport changing to the summer 12' stage. We all know to always expect changes from the COE. You also beat the heat by fishing early this time of year. Heavier flows are stirring up some moss and bank trash mid-day. During the afternoons fish really close to the bank in the higher flows, in behind toe-heads below grassy points and islands. Pink San Juan Worms and Pink ladies are very productive as are Crawfish Streamers on sink tips. 56ers are producing really good fish. Bank fishing along the edges and Island hopping present excellent wade fishing opportunities in these water levels.
Be careful; respect the heat, the high water and your fellow fishermen.
