Gary Flippin's Fishing Report

October, 2011

Fishing has been very good the past week with lower water levels making the river more accessible. Norfork has established a wading window that should get better before the weekend. Both lakes are within a few days of power pool. Bull Shoals continues to run around the clock with lower levels in the morning hours.

Be cautious of the fluctuating levels;  I rescued my first fisherman in 3 years off the Island at Rim this past week. A few inches in levels can make the difference of returning to shore safely. For those of you that have a boat take your time and learn the changes. There are dramatic changes in both the channels as we knew them and new submerged structure that washed in due to the floods.

Both rivers are fishing very well. Microcaddis hatches are coming off every evening. Small beadheads are working well. Midges are working well below Hoppers. Hoppers are on and off during the day. Egg patterns with midge droppers are catching lots of fish. Look for the Bull to be low for the conclave. Pattern the water from here on out.

For those of you who wonder if John Berry left the area the answer is no: he only traded vehicles. Enjoy the great fall weather and welcome the low wadable water.

Flip at Rim.
