Gary Flippin's Fishing Report
September, 2011
Greetings everybody and a big welcome to cooler temperatures. High flows are still the agenda for Bull and Norfork tailwaters. As the lakes get deeper in the bowl levels will drop more rapidly. At this rate we should see wadable water by the end of this month. For those of you that boat fish the conditions are excellent for catching big fish and lots of fish. Hoppers are in full swing as good reports of quality fish being caught. Ants, beetles and other terrestrials being fished right on the bank with a splash produce strikes. Stripping big streamers in these constant high flows produce. With the cfs staying constantly high fish move further up into the creeks and backwaters and hold. There are still good wading opportunities from the islands but you have to have a boat to get to them. Wade cautiously.
Stocking restrictions are in place on the Norfork since the 18th of this past Month due to the beginning of the Low dissolved oxygen season. All fish scheduled to be stocked on the upper part of Norfork are being placed further down river until conditions improve. Look for wadable windows on the Norfork soon. By our next newsletter we should have outstanding fishing reports with conditions setting up to be the best ever on these tailwaters.
Farewell to my friends, fellow Guides, professional Individuals, stewards of the stream, you will be truly missed - Don Adams and Gabe Cross. We will miss you.
Flip at Rim.
