Gold Tinsel Streamer

Hook:  #10 streamer
Thread:  Olive 8/0
Body: Peacock herl
Hackle:  Grizzly Olive
Presentation Eyes:  Mini
Weight:  0.15 wire
Tail:  Olive marabou
Body:  Gold Holographic Tinsel

  1. Tie on presentation (hourglass) eyes and leave enough room near eye to figure 8 the peacock.  By tying presentation eyes on top of the hook shank, this will cause the fly to flip over and look like a bait fish feeding on the bottom. Wrap about 10 wraps of 0.15 lead or non toxic wire around hook.

  1. Tie in 4 strands of gold holographic tinsel behind presentation eyes on bottom of hook shank.

  1. Tie olive marabou in for the tail.  Tie grizzly hackle, then 4 strands of peacock.  Palmer peacock to presentation eyes and figure 8 around eyes and shank of hook between the hook eye and presentation eyes.

  1. Pull 2 strands of tinsel on each side of hook eye and give several wraps of thread behind the presentation eyes to hold secure.  Now pull all 4 strands of tinsel to tail of fly and use hackle to hold tinsel in place.  Wrap hackle to presentation eyes and tie off.  Whip finish.  Trim excess holographic tinsel where remaining tips are slightly alternating in length and shorter than the marabou tail of the fly.

FISHING TECHNIQUES:  This fly has been very productive in late winter or early spring with hits on every cast.  Stripping back stimulates a lot of hits, if that method is slow, bumping along the bottom will produce.  Productivity of this fly is not as good during the hotter summer months, but it has worked year round.
