Humpback Scud

Humpback Scud

Materials:
Hook - Daiichi 1120 Scud Hook (#14,16,18) or any other scud hook
Under Body -Twistons Lead Sinker strips
Body - Sow/Scud Dubbing (Tan, Gray, Olive, Orange)
Tying Thread - Uni Thread 6/0
Scud Back (Olive, Tan, Gray, and Orange)

Cut Lead strip into triangle shape.

Start tying thread at eye of hook and wrap back to bend.

Bind lead triangle on hook with back and forth wraps of tying thread completely covering lead, working thread back to hook bend.

Tie in scud back at hook bend

Dub body toward hook eye then spiral tying thread back to hook bend.

Pull scud back forward and wrap over scud back with tying thread to secure scud back and to give a segmented look. Once back to eye whip finish.

Best fished with a dead drift under an indicator. Most popular colors Gray and Tan, but Olive is also effective.
Dead Scuds turn Orange so this as also effective at times.

Humpback Scuds are definitely in my top three go to flies along with Sow Bugs and Zebra Midges.
