This is a 7-1/2' 5wt. rod that weighs a nice light 5 ounces. It's a 3 section rod with two tips. All the hardware has been replaced, which includes - an uplocking Batson reelseat in light gunsmoke with an Amboyna burl spacer, new super fine cork grip, folding hook keeper, 9 mm mildrum stripper guide, new 304 stainless steel line guides, tip tops and the original ferrules.
Amboyna burl is an exotic from S.E. Asia, the same wood used on the old Rolls Royce dashboards. I purchase the blanks and machine them for a custom fit to the reelseat and to the bamboo.
Also included with each rod is a set of ferrule plugs machined for a nice fit to each set of ferrules
This is a real smooth casting rod and it's very easy to cast 50 to 60 feet of line if needed. The rod was tested with a double taper 5wt. and 6wt. Cortland sylk lines at the recommended 30 foot range. It loads up short and casts long.
This rod was rebuilt from a quality Shakespeare bamboo rod, South Bend was a builder of Shakespeare rods. It's a nice light caramel colored bamboo that is in sound condition. All sections are the same length at 30-1/2" and straight. Nice pack rod.
The wrappings on this rod are done in the vintage Payne green and black jasper and tipped with cardinal red silk. The signature wrap is also black silk. A very classy looking rod.
The rod sections then are triple dipped in a tank of Helmsman spar urethane for maximum coverage, protection and a beautiful sheen. Each section is lightly hand rubbed between coats to assure maximum smoothness and adhesion for each coat. Helmsman gives great uv protection and has super flexing abilities.
Included in this package is a custom fitted Leonard/Orvis style bag in khaki with a genuine leather hang tab and a fitted aluminum black powder coat tube with solid brass screw cap and solid brass bottom.
The package also includes an instruction sheet on caring for Bamboo rods and ferrule maintenance.
