Copper John
Hook: 1x or 2x long nymph hook, sizes 10-18 (I use a Tiemco 3761), weight optional
Head: Gold bead (Cyclops or tungsten)
Thread: Black, 6/0 or 8/0
Tail: Brown goose biot or turkey biot, tied V-style
Abdomen: Copper Ultra Wire
Wing case: Pearl flashabou over Thin Skin (or turkey tail)
Thorax: Peacock
Legs: Hungarian partridge, tied divided style
For the finishing touch, use either a drop of 5-minute epoxy on top of thorax or UV Knot Sense (my choice).
This fly has proven quite effective during low water conditions on the White River. I cast 45 degrees upstream and let it dead drift with a couple of line mends. I use a low-profile strike indicator. Most of my takes have happened downstream from my position.
Good Tying, Good Fishing & Good Luck!!!
