2010 Caddis Fly Swap

Hook:  3761BL 12/14.
Thread: UTC 70, Olive
Rib:   Silver wire
 Body:  Rear Wapsi stretch tubing green. Front, hare's ear dubbing
Wings buds:  Tan Swiss straw, tied in as emerging, left and right of fly body.
Hackle: Light tan hen or hen pheasant neck
Horns: A pair of Bronze mallard, or wood duck fibers.

Tying instructions:
Place hook into vice. Tie in the thread and secure the stretch tubing and silver wire.  Run the thread with the tubing and wire back to the center of the curve of the hook. Bring the thread forward to a location about 1/3 of the way back from the hook eye. Be sure to completely cover the hook with the thread.
Place tension on the stretch tubing and wrap it forward. Secure it with the thread and trim the excess.
Wrap the silver wire forward and secure with the thread.  Trim the excess.
Dub the body.
Cut a piece of tan Swiss straw about 1/8 inch wide. Fold it in half and trim one end to shape as the wing tips. Cut the piece of Swiss straw in two and tie in the wings. Trim the excess wing material away from the eye of the hook.
Tie in the hackle.
Carefully separate two fibers from the mallard or wood duck feather. The fibers should be about twice as long as the hook. It is easiest to keep the fibers attached to each other until they are tied in. and tie them in.
